If You Want To See My Home Office...Come Take A Peak
Grant Griffiths over at his new 'home', the Home Office Warrior, is featuring my office in his snapshot series of home offices. He was after me for a while to get him a picture, so after clearing the clutter off my desk (clutter is good thing for me!)...I made it nice and pretty for him and his readers and now for you.
But before I tell you about my home office, let me tell you about Home Office Warrior. This is the brainchild of Grant Griffiths and it is really terrific. This site is not dedicated to lawyers. It is dedicated to ANYONE who is or wants to work out of their home. It is the first place anyone with questions regarding a home office should go for all manner of information including financial, virtual assistance, tax questions, work/life balance. And it will continue to grow in readership, although it's had more than 50,000 page views in just 3 months. Why? Because there are over 20 million lone wolves in this country....home based businesses or telecommuters. Their legion is growing and they need one great place to find all the answers. I've been watching this site for three months and I have now become a devotee. Grant will also be introducing a newsletter for Home Office Warrior which will be chock-full of even more tips and tricks. So, subscribe to his feed and share with others, even non-lawyers, because the Third Wave is upon us and home offices are a huge part of the present and future.
Now, back to my office. For those who wonder about the rest of the office, there is a rhodedendron plant I have had for 13 years trailing on the floor, a new office gift from my parents when I opened my first official second wave office in 1995, a rocker and ottoman, (where I sit when I’m teleconferencing with clients so as not to be distracted by the computer) a matching two drawer filing cabinet with TV on top, a closet for supplies and a space..uhmmm..for the treadmill I just bought on December 30th to be delivered in a week or so. (New Year’s resolution.) This is a second floor office so the windows look into my backyard which is nicely wooded and very peaceful.
One caveat, I just recently refurbished this office because I recognized this was going to be THE space for my future employment. Prior to this it was not so ‘pretty’ with an older corner desk unit, boxes, an old recliner from my husband. The point I’m making here is you can evolve in your home office surroundings, too, as you get more comfortable with the concept of working from home. You create the best environment for yourself, the one you find most conducive to productivity. And then enjoy the tax deductions.
So, now you’ve gotten a little peak into my world.

I love your home office, but clutter is never a good thing or good for anybody. It is an excuse these days for not being paperless.
This said, I very much like the coziness of your office. The paint tone on the wall is very soothing, I think. I like the fact you control the wires.

I'm envious. My kids have taken every bit of free space we have so my office on this side of the water is a coffee shop.

The chair and the lamp are nice touches. You've got style.

Chuck, the colors are very soothing deliberately and Eric, just trying to keep it feminine. I'm the only female in the house and I was committed to having a 'feminine' space with stained glass and plants. It's still a work in progress...maybe I'll post a future picture upon its completion. But, thanks for the compliment and I hope you'll be joining the discussion more often!

Very cool to see the nice woodwork. The modern, technical look may work for some, but your office is classic and classy.
